DE-CIX Malaysia, a subsidiary of the global Internet Exchange (IX) leader DE-CIX Group, has announced a collaboration with Digital Penang, an innovative digital organization owned by the State of Penang, to establish the Penang Internet Exchange (PIX) powered by DE-CIX.
This partnership is set to transform Penang’s interconnectivity landscape and elevate the region’s digital capabilities with enhanced internet connectivity.
Wong Weng Yew, a member of DE-CIX Malaysia’s Board of Management, expressed excitement about the partnership, noting Penang’s potential as an upcoming interconnectivity hub in Southeast Asia.
“This state-of-the-art interconnection platform will fuel the growth of Penang’s digital ecosystem and provide businesses, institutions, and individuals with improved connectivity and global network access,” he said.
The Malaysian government’s push towards digitalization makes this collaboration timely, promising to boost digital adoption, particularly for businesses. PIX powered by DE-CIX will adhere to DE-CIX Malaysia’s strict security and reliability standards, ensuring a secure Internet Exchange environment.
Ts. Ng Kwang Ming, CEO of Digital Penang, highlighted the strategic significance of this partnership in making Penang a digital hub in the region.
“The Penang Internet Exchange will catalyze the adoption of digital applications like IoT, AI, and IR4.0, and attract investments from content providers and internet-related businesses, laying the groundwork for a robust data centre ecosystem in Penang,” he affirmed.
The PIX is designed to enhance the internet experience in Penang and drive the adoption of digital services in local communities and enterprises. Wong Weng Yew added, “This initiative aligns with the Malaysian government’s goals outlined in the Budget 2024, aiming to position Malaysia as a high-income nation and attract foreign investments.”
The partnership between DE-CIX and Digital Penang is committed to propelling Penang’s digital economy forward, positioning the region as an ideal destination for businesses and technology investors.
DE-CIX Penang will play a crucial role in enabling fast, reliable, and secure interconnectivity, essential for fostering industry-wide digital innovation.
