Sunway University has earned the top spot among non-government linked private universities in Malaysia in the latest Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2023.
Ranked within the 801-1000 bracket out of 1,799 universities across 104 countries and regions, the prestigious institution has also been recognized as one of Malaysia’s Top 10 universities.
“We are very pleased to have entered the THE World University Rankings for meeting the eligibility criteria to receive a rank in the league table,” said Professor Sibrandes Poppema, President of Sunway University.
The league table, compiled using 13 performance indicators, evaluates universities in areas such as teaching, research, knowledge transfer, and international outlook. These rankings are trusted by governments and universities worldwide, aiding students in making informed decisions about their higher education pursuits.
Sunway University has not only proven its academic prowess but also its commitment to sustainability, ranking in the top 301+ out of 1,406 international institutions in the THE Impact Rankings 2022.
These rankings assess a university’s social and economic impact based on the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The University shines in several SDGs, ranking in the Top 200 in Clean Water and Sanitation (SDG 6), Decent Work and Economic Growth (SDG 8), and Partnership for the Goals (SDG 17).
It also scores high in Affordable and Clean Energy (SDG 7), and Sustainable Cities and Communities (SDG 11).
Alongside academic and sustainable achievements, Sunway University has consistently emphasized graduate employability.
The institution received the number one award in Graduate Employability among all Malaysian universities in 2022 and 2023, as per the National Graduate Employability Index by Talentbank Group.
This recognition highlights the university’s commitment to nurturing graduates who are highly sought-after in the professional realm.
