The Department of Tourism (DOT) has launched the Philippine Experience Program (PEP): Culture, Heritage and Arts Caravan in the Caraga region on Monday, aiming to highlight the cultural heritage and natural landscapes of the area through a three-day event running from October 28-30.
The event features the provinces of Agusan del Norte and Agusan del Sur, along with the cities of Butuan, Cabadbaran, and Bayugan.
The program, a flagship initiative under the leadership of Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco, is designed to promote local culture and traditions to both domestic and international delegates.
The department expects around 100 participants, including consuls, foreign ambassadors, media representatives, and key officials from the tourism sector. Secretary Frasco is also attending the event.
The itinerary includes a welcome reception hosted by the Butuan City government, featuring storytelling of the city’s history and cultural performances.
Delegates will participate in historical tours at local museums, including the National Museum of the Philippines in Butuan and the Butuan Archaeological Park, offering cultural insights into the area’s past.
Activities also include a river cruise along the Agusan River, a visit to the Balangay building site, and a market day at Agusan del Norte’s Agnor Tabo. Delegates will also explore Cabadbaran City’s historical landmarks, such as the Puting Bato viewing deck and Bega Falls Eco-Tourism Park.
The PEP program aims to boost tourism by showcasing regional diversity and offering immersive cultural experiences.
