Berde Renewables, a subsidiary of I Squared Capital, has forged a power purchase agreement with Holcim Philippines, part of the Holcim Group, to initiate solar rooftop installations on two of its industrial facilities.
This move aims to bolster clean energy generation and significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
The solar facilities, which will be constructed, operated, and maintained by Berde Renewables, will be located on Holcim’s plants in Bulacan and La Union. With a combined capacity of 5.5 MWp, they are projected to generate around 7.8 GWh annually.
The facilities are expected to go online in 2024 and are estimated to slash greenhouse gas emissions by roughly 5,500 tCo2e per year. This initiative plays a crucial role in Holcim’s ambitious goal to curtail Scope 2 emissions by 65% within the next seven years.
Patrick Zhu, the CEO of Berde Renewables, expressed pride in partnering with Holcim, emphasizing the company’s commitment to supporting commercial and industrial consumers in their shift to sustainable energy. Zhu highlighted the project’s pioneering role in the Philippine cement industry’s adoption of solar solutions.
Horia Adrian, President and CEO of Holcim Philippines, acknowledged the company’s substantial progress in reducing its carbon footprint, attributing it to innovations in blended cements, alternative materials, and operational efficiency. He underscored the significance of the Berde Renewables partnership in advancing the Holcim Group’s Net Zero trajectory and contributing to the Philippines’ Nationally Determined Contributions.
The collaboration between Berde Renewables and Holcim Philippines marks a significant step towards sustainable industrial practices, demonstrating the potential of renewable energy in reducing environmental impact while promoting economic efficiency.
