Hong Kong Investor Relations Association (HKIRA) and ONC Lawyers will be co-hosting the conference entitled “Shareholder Engagement and Activism in Hong Kong” on 25 October 2019 (Friday) at the Conrad Hotel Hong Kong.
Following the previous successful events, which most participants found particularly informative and beneficial, HKIRA and ONC Lawyers are co-organizing the Conference again this year, once again providing various stakeholders and parties, mainly investors, asset managers, listed companies, and academics, with a valuable opportunity to exchange views and experience from diverse perspectives. HKIRA and ONC Lawyers hope that industry players can be encouraged to engage in productive conversations, thereby promoting shareholder well-being.
Dr. Eva Chan, Founding Chairman of HKIRA, said, “We are honoured to have ONC Lawyers as our co-organizer again this year. We both strongly believe that the Shareholder Engagement and Activism in Hong Kong Conference will be a great opportunity to keep industry players, whether you are a Board member, senior management professional or Investor Relations (IR) practitioner, posted on the latest developments of shareholder engagement and activism. Listed companies are encouraged to be more proactive in communicating with investors and respond timely to the enquiries and suggestions from investors. More importantly, in view of the increasingly globalized world economy, the Conference discussions will not be limited to Hong Kong, but also other major financial markets across the globe.”
Mr. Sherman Yan, Managing Partner of ONC Lawyers, said, “On behalf of ONC Lawyers, I would like to express our heartfelt thanks to HKIRA for working with us again this year as the co-host of this respected Conference, which our firm has organised for the third time and marks our second collaboration with the HKIRA. In the previous events, we have had constructive intellectual and topical discussions and we certainly look forward to more of the same this year. Indeed, HKIRA’s continuous efforts in advocating the setting of international standards in IR education and practices and advancing the awareness and standing of the IR community have been highly recognized and appreciated not only among the investment community, but also by professional parties who they work closely with. On our part, we shall continue to provide legal strategy and tactical support and to promote the awareness among public shareholders as well as listed companies and investors on shareholder engagement and activism.”
At the Conference, Hong Kong and international experts are invited to share their insights in presentations and panel discussions, helping to encourage interaction among participants.
The Shareholder Engagement and Activism in Hong Kong Conference will cover the following topics:
– Board Accountability – Purpose, ESG and Value Creation
– Two Styles of Shareholder Activism: Negotiated (Europe Continental, Asia) vs. Escalation (U.S., UK): Experience from the 2018 and 2019 Proxy Seasons in the United States and Europe
