Saudi Arabia has executed a Filipino worker who was found guilty for the murder of his Sudanese landlord in 2009, the Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) announced on Tuesday.
DFA spokesman Charles Jose has confirmed that Saudi authorities have executed Joselito Zapanta, who was charged in a Saudi court for murder with robbery.
The execution of Zapanta went through despite his family’s appeal for clemency and their willingness to pay the blood money, the DFA said.
According to Jose, the Philippine government had been helping Zapanta since he was sentenced to death. The DFA even brought Zapanta’s family to Saudi Arabia to meet with the Filipino worker before his execution.
