CEBU, PHILIPPINES – A buy-bust operation resulted to the arrest of a suspected female drug courier and the seizure of at least P4.7-million (USD105,000) worth of substance believed to be shabu (methamphetamine or crystal meth) and an unlicensed gun, the police here said.

The operation conducted by the Regional Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Force (RAIDSOTG) 7 resulted to the arrest of Maria Theresa Bacug, a suspected big time drug courier who can dispose several kilos of shabu every week.

Bacug was arrested after she handed a small pack of shabu to an undercover policeman during a buy-bust operation. A subsequent search resulted to the discovery of two plastic packs containing shabu and an unlicensed .45 caliber gun.

RAIDSOTG 7 Chief Senior Insp. Henrix Bancoleta said the seized drugs have a value of about P4.7 million.

Bancoleta said Bacug was a subject of a weeklong surveillance operation after the police received information that she was alleged being used by a Manila-based supplier to distribute the illegal drugs in Cebu.

Bacug did not deny the allegation, saying she just started as a drug courier for her Manila-based “boss” six months ago. She said she was tasked to distribute the illegal drugs to drug pushers in Cebu.

Bacug, however, did not provide details about her alleged supplier and how much she earned from being a drug courier.

The operation conducted on Saturday dawn was the first successful anti-illegal drugs sting for RAIDSOTG 7 for this month. Last month, the group conducted major drug operations in Cebu City, which resulted to the arrest of several persons and the seizure of millions worth of illegal drugs. – BusinessNewsAsia.com
